Do Kids Really Need Braces in Houston?
Our pediatric dentistry works to keep track of your child’s teeth. We want to make sure they are growing in strong and straight. Our goal is to make sure that every child has a strong and healthy set of teeth when they reach adulthood.
Baby teeth typically fall out between the ages of 6 and 7. After this, the adult teeth start to grow in and our kids dentists are able to gauge how the teeth are doing. This is when we are able to analyze and predict whether the teeth will need braces or not. Not every child winds up with straight teeth. In fact, many children have teeth that end up crooked, misaligned, or gapped. In these instances, our Houston kids dentists and orthodontists will recommend braces.
WHEN SHOULD YOUR CHILD RECEIVE BRACES?
There are times when children receive braces before all of their 32 teeth come in. These braces don’t have all the brackets attached because not all of the teeth are there. The brackets are attached once the teeth arrive.
In many cases, parents wait until all of the teeth fully grow. From there, our orthodontists conducts an extensive exam of the teeth and then makes the recommendation for which braces would work best: metal, ceramic, or Invisalign Teen. Parents and kids typically choose the types of braces based on how long they will take to align the teeth and based on the price (parents choice). Some cases are extreme and require a longer time to straighten teeth. Many cases, however, do not require an extreme amount of time.
Based on the evaluation, our orthodontists will inform the patient and the parent of when they should consider receiving braces, or if braces are necessary at all.
