At Signature Smiles, our goal is to ensure that every patient has a healthy and beautiful smile. For those who desire a straighter, more uniform smile, braces can be an excellent solution, providing both aesthetic and functional benefits.

At Signature Smiles, we provide multiple orthodontic solutions. We offer Clear Braces, Invisalign® braces, as well as the more traditional 3M metal braces that can be supplied with colorful band options, based on patient needs and preferences. Our Conroe orthodontist, Dr. Gary Gardner, collaborates with each patient to ensure they understand the different treatment options and feel empowered to make the best choice.

Do I Need Braces?

While many patients associate braces with the aesthetic benefits of a straighter smile, they also serve a number of important oral health purposes. A properly aligned bite can reduce strain on the jaw and prevent damage or wear to the teeth. Straighter teeth can also enable patients to more easily brush and floss between them, preventing the build-up of bacteria and reducing the long-term risk of gum disease, tooth loss, and other oral health concerns.

Conditions such as overbite, underbite, crossbite, and overcrowding can all contribute to a “crooked” smile while also causing underlying problems with a patient’s bite. During a consultation, your dentist can assess your teeth, bite, and other oral structures in order to determine whether braces are an appropriate solution for your needs.

What Does the Braces Treatment Process Involve?

Traditional braces are a reliable method for straightening the teeth and aligning the bite. The process begins with a consultation, during which Dr. Gardner will take digital x-rays and impressions of your teeth. From there, a custom treatment plan and timeline can be determined.

Traditional metal 3M braces involve the placement of a metal bracket on each tooth. A thin, flexible wire is then run over the brackets, and elastic bands are applied to keep the wire in place. Over the course of the treatment process, the wires are routinely tightened to encourage the progressive shifting of the teeth into the desired positions.

Braces treatment typically lasts around two years, though this timeline can vary based on the individual orthodontic needs of the patient. Once the braces are removed, a retainer will be placed in order to ensure the teeth do not shift back out of alignment.

Braces for Teens

Though the popularity of braces is growing among adult patients, teenagers are the primary audience for the treatment. Approximately 75% of braces wearers are teenagers, therefore, we understand the importance of braces for the younger generation. The importance of braces is not simply about straight teeth, but they are about the health of the patient as well. Ensuring that kids and teenagers have straight teeth also ensures that they are less likely to experience malocclusion, or extensive cavities due to food particles becoming trapped in and around teeth. Yes, braces have been developed to create a beautiful smile, but more importantly, they have been developed to provide a healthy bite and smile.

Our dentists believe in treating patients with their overall health in mind. Like many adults today, we do not want our young patients to look back 20 years later and regret never receiving braces. We typically suggest 3M braces for teens, as well as children. Invisalign clear braces are also an option for teenagers. Your orthodontist can review the different options with you during your appointment.

How Much Do Braces Cost?

The precise cost of braces treatment depends on a number of factors, including the type of braces chosen and the complexity of treatment. During a consultation, Dr. Gardner will assess your unique needs and goals before providing a personalized treatment outline—including a price quote. Many dental insurance plans offer orthodontic benefits, so our helpful office team will be happy to help you explore your options.

Family-Friendly Orthodontist’s Office

At Signature Smiles, we believe that every dental appointment should be a fun and memorable experience. We want every child and teen to want to come to our dental office, which is why we’ve done all we can to ensure they have a good time. We have created a special room for kids and teens where they can play video games or watch movies. This room is right next to the lobby, so parents can always be close to their child throughout the entire appointment. In fact, we always ask the parent to accompany their child during their dental or orthodontic appointment so that the child will have a familiar face close to them.

Every dental station has a TV above the dental chair so patients can watch their favorite program or movie, which keeps their minds occupied on something other than dentistry. After their appointment, kids are able to dig through our treasure of goodies and toys to find their favorite item and take it home with them. It is just a small token of our appreciation and a friendly way for younger patients to always remember us.
